The Field Producer, Assignment Editor, and Web Contributor

One month before the end of my paid internship with ABC 7, I was offered to join the assignment desk at CBS 2 as a field producer and news associate. In those roles, I was sent to developing and breaking stories, I set up and conducted interviews, and acted as a communication liaison between news crews in the field and the newsroom. After joining the CBS 2 team in May 2018, my talents and responsibilities expanded into becoming a morningside and nightside assignment editor and web/social media contributor. Here are just a few examples of my work in my various capacities as a writer and journalist for CBS 2.

Thousands of anti-violence protesters joined the Rev. Michael Pfleger in shutting down sections of the Dan Ryan for hours on July 7th, 2018.

I shot this video as anti-violence protesters marched in the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan. Protesters can be heard chanting as part of a call to end gun violence in Chicago.

About 200 protesters shutdown Lake Shore Drive on August 2, calling for an end to gun violence and racial policing. This was the second shutdown of three that happened in the Chicago area this past summer.

This is an original photo I shot of the Lake Shore Drive shutdown march on August 2, 2018, that was used as the front-page photo on CBS 2's website for the story.

LawndaleViolencePic.jpg

An original photo I shot on August 12, 2018, at 16th and Avers in the Lawndale community. Community members gathered here to put out wooden crosses, one for every victim lost in Chicago's gun violence surge that previous weekend. 66 people were shot, 12 were killed. The event concluded with prayers and a balloon release.

Chicago Police officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery on October 5, 2018 for the 2014 shooting death of teenager Laquan McDonald.

This is an original photo I took of citizens celebrating the verdict of Chicago Police officer Jason Van Dyke. Van Dyke was found guilty of second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. I field produced and assisted CBS 2 reporter Brad Edwards when the marching started.

Residents in Chicago's Roger Park community are fearful of leaving their homes after two men are murdered and the killer remains on the loose. Rideshare company Lyft and local alderman Joe Moore explain how residents can get around safely while police try to find the killer.

Six people become trapped in an elevator overnight on Chicago's Mag Mile when the cables snap, careening them down 84 floors. The Chicago Fire Department explains why they had to breach a brick wall to rescue them.
